What's Your 2023 Word?
Plus a coupon code (!), tips, resources, etc that can help you get what you want
Hi writers and friends!
Happy New Year’s Day / first day of 2023!
What’s Your 2023 Word?
When I was writing an article for Yoga Journal, my editor and I were talking about how it can be helpful to have one word to focus on during your yoga practice. Basically, this word illustrates what you want to feel or manifest throughout the session (and beyond).
When I tried this out, I found it super helpful. It’s a lot easier to focus on one word during yoga — and feel peace with it — than it is to come up with full sentences.
I think this is a helpful practice for life and work, too. What do you want more of this year as a writer, and how can you make it happen? Here are some examples:
Peace — be understanding of your needs; work only with clients who treat you well; find a healthy balance between work, rest, and play
Bravery — pitch new publications; write about that hot take you have; say “no” to an assignment that doesn’t pay your rate
Connection — start a newsletter; reach out to other writers; interact with people on social media
I’d love to hear your thoughts — feel free to comment below!

Other Updates
1) Paid subscription pledges: I just found out that Substack allows subscribers to pledge for a future paid subscription to this newsletter. I don’t know a whole lot about the function — though FYI, it’s possible this newsletter will be paid in the future, as I get busier — but I wanted to let you know it’s available now and on the lower/lowest end of the financial scale that Substack allows. Regardless, thank you all for your support with this newsletter. I love sharing these resources and stories with you!
2) Starting your own Substack: Thinking about starting your own newsletter this year? It can’t hurt, right? I totally recommend doing it, especially on Substack. Substack is easy to use, provides analytical data, and more.
If so, please consider using the button below so we’ll be connected! :)

GENERAL NOTES FOR THE PITCH CALLS BELOW:
If the story is about a marginalized community, you probably need to be in that community to write the piece.
Mentioning my name in your pitch won’t help, unfortunately!
