Plus pitch calls, jobs, writing tips, and more!
Hi writers and friends!
Unexpected Problems for Freelance Writers, and How to Fix Them
As you can guess, freelancing is a big game of “what if.”
What if I don’t make enough money?
What if I’m not cut out for this?
What if I keep getting rejected?
These worries are totally normal and understandable, and for all of us—not just people who are new to the game.
But here’s the good news: While tricky and tough situations will occur, they’re fixable. You’re more powerful, smart, and capable than you think.
To relieve some of your stress around the unknown and issues that arise, I wanted to share a few articles that do just that—two from me, and one from a great writer and friend. Check them out below!

Pitch Calls
GENERAL NOTES:
If the story is about a marginalized community, you probably need to be in that community to write the piece.
Mentioning my name in your pitch won’t help, unfortunately!
Pitch calls:
Send LGBTQ+ History Month pitches to Tagg Magazine (Rate: $75-$175)
Send Halloween-job-diary-esque pitches to Insider (Rate: Starts at £270)
Send gaming/entertainment/etc pitches to IGN (Rate: Most articles start at $300)
