Hi writers and friends! I’m glad you’re here.
Your Entrepreneur Archetype—and How It Can Help You Make $$
In her Freelance to Fortune Slack group, Jessica Pereira shared the “entrepreneurial archetype” quiz.
Here was my first reaction: “You mean I get to take a personality test and call it work?!”
I immediately stopped what I was doing and took the quiz. Here are my results:
78% coach
67% creator
61% teacher
31% architect
But how can you use your results to be smarter about money-making?
Use that information to figure out how to hone in on your strengths and sell your content/abilities best. For example, I learned I would be best at selling coaching opportunities (something I’m super passionate about and offer (somewhat) in my resource set) and creating sellable products (again, like the resource set, haha).
I’d love to hear what you learn from the quiz!
Exciting Announcement
I know many of you appreciate the pitch calls section + writing jobs section the most. (And I also know I need money so I can pay the IRS, lol.)
So! I created a weekly newsletter that shares lots of pitch calls and writing jobs. Specific ones, too, not just general websites, so all you have to do is click and apply.
The cost is $5/month (the lowest Substack will let me charge), or $50 a year (so you save $10!). You can subscribe here.

Pitch Calls
PLEASE NOTE:
If the story is about a marginalized community, you probably need to be in that community to write the piece.
Mentioning my name in your pitch won’t help, unfortunately!
If the rate is unknown, one site that may help is Who Pays Writers.
I retweet these fairly regularly on Twitter if you want them throughout the month!
Pitch calls:
Psych Central — looking for BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and male writers — rate is $200 to $300 per story
Metro — opinions re: FIFA’s decision on Russia — quick turnaround!
Narratively — pitches about unique, family-run businesses; must be dramatic, inclusive, relevant, etc — rate is $500+ — deadline is March 15
Kitchen Witch Newsletter — pitches for holidays this year and other witchy topics — rate is $100
(Finding) Writer Jobs
Jobs with Group Nine Media (includes pubs like PopSugar, Thrillist, etc)
Creatively (a site for finding jobs)
Jobs with Conde Nast (includes pubs like Allure, WIRED, Vogue, The New Yorker, Architectural Digest, etc)
Jobs with Dotdash Meredith (includes pubs like Health.com, Verywell Health, Spruce Eats, etc)
Writing/Freelancing Resources
Google Trends — a great way to see what topics are popular right now (which is an important aspect of a successful pitch)
Reddit + Quora are also great sites for showing your story idea is a popular one!
Writing Club with Kelly Eden and Ash Jurberg (whom you might recognize from Medium) — the March group started today, but you may be able to join later?
Duotrope’s resources (TBH, I haven’t looked much into this, but it looks really cool so far!)
